Akwanga–Maiduguri superhighway will boost trade across regions, Shettima says

Vice-President Kashim Shettima says President Bola Tinubu’s infrastructure investments will transform Nigeria’s regions into economic powerhouses by improving connectivity, reducing transportation costs and boosting trade.
Shettima said the administration’s road projects were designed to connect agricultural and industrial production centres with markets, create employment and accelerate economic development across the country.
He spoke on Wednesday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally in Lafia, Nasarawa State, where he urged residents to support Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

The Vice-President identified the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri Superhighway as a major project that would strengthen economic ties between the North-Central and North-East regions.
He said the road, alongside the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway and Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway, reflected the administration’s commitment to addressing Nigeria’s infrastructure deficit.
“We have promised to connect producers and markets. We have promised to ease movement across regions. We have promised to generate employment. We have promised to diminish costs that burden traders and families,” he said.
Shettima explained that improved road networks would ease the movement of agricultural produce, minerals and manufactured goods, bringing farms, mines and factories closer to consumers.
He said the infrastructure programme was being supported by economic reforms aimed at strengthening public finances, increasing government revenue and restoring investor confidence.
