The Ondo State Competition and Consumer Protection Agency has warned manufacturers, distributors and traders involved in the sale of counterfeit, adulterated, expired and substandard products to desist from the practice or face legal action.
The agency’s Executive Chairman, Oluyemi Fasipe, gave the warning on Thursday, saying the agency was prepared to enforce the Ondo State Competition and Consumer Protection Law, 2026, to protect consumers and promote fair business practices.
Fasipe said the agency would not tolerate commercial activities that endanger lives, mislead consumers or violate their rights. He added that the agency would discharge its regulatory responsibilities without fear or favour.
He also warned traders against manipulating weighing and measuring instruments, engaging in deceptive pricing and adopting other practices designed to exploit unsuspecting customers.
According to him, the agency would investigate reported violations and impose appropriate sanctions, including sealing business premises where permitted by law and prosecuting offenders through established legal procedures.
The chairman stressed that no business owner would be exempt from enforcement because of wealth, political influence or social standing, insisting that all operators in the state must comply with the law.
However, he clarified that the agency’s activities were not intended to frustrate legitimate businesses or prevent entrepreneurs from making profits, but to ensure that commercial activities were conducted responsibly and in accordance with the law.
Fasipe urged business owners to familiarise themselves with the provisions of the new law and comply with its requirements. He also encouraged residents to report unfair business practices, assuring them that consumer welfare would remain the agency’s priority.
