AAUA lecturers resume indefinite strike over unpaid arrears, 2025 agreement

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko chapter, has commenced an indefinite strike over the failure of the Ondo State Government and the university management to implement a 2025 agreement reached with the union.

The latest action came shortly after the lecturers suspended an earlier strike over outstanding salary arrears, with the union accusing the authorities of failing to fulfil commitments made to its members.

Confirming the development in a telephone interview, the ASUU chairman at AAUA, Professor Boluwaji Oshodi, said the decision followed an earlier resolution to resume industrial action if the agreement remained unimplemented.

Oshodi said the union had notified the state government and university management of its position and initially gave the authorities until the May salary cycle to address the outstanding issues.

However, he said the union continued to wait and allowed the authorities additional time to act, despite its earlier warning that failure to implement the agreement would trigger another strike.

According to him, the latest decision followed the outcome of the union’s National Executive Council meeting held last weekend, after which members resolved to commence an indefinite strike.

He described the action as “total, comprehensive and indefinite,” saying members would not return to work until the 2025 agreement was implemented and salary arrears owed from January were paid.

Oshodi added that the union remained committed to the action until the outstanding issues were resolved, stressing that members would not resume work before the government and university management fulfilled their obligations.
