The national leadership of the African Democratic Congress has cautioned an Oyo State governorship aspirant, Alagbe Gbemileke, popularly known as Eleniyan, and other aggrieved members against actions capable of causing disunity within the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party also reaffirmed Olooye Taofeek Adegboyega Adegoke as its recognised governorship candidate for Oyo State.
The Deputy National Financial Secretary of the ADC, Oladimeji Fadeyi, stated this on Wednesday during an interview on Solutions 93.9FM’s AM Update. He urged Gbemileke and other aggrieved members to sheathe their swords and work with Adegoke.
According to Fadeyi, the party’s position was based on the outcome of a recognised direct primary conducted by the ADC and confirmed by the Independent National Electoral Commission. He said party members participated in the exercise and selected Adegoke to represent them.
Fadeyi said the party had succeeded in presenting credible candidates for the forthcoming elections. He therefore appealed to members to respect the outcome of the primaries and avoid activities capable of weakening the party’s chances at the polls.
On the presidential race, Fadeyi expressed confidence in the ADC’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, saying the former vice president’s experience in government and knowledge of the Nigerian economy would strengthen his chances in the 2027 election.
He dismissed what he described as rumours surrounding Atiku and cited his record in government, including his position on the rule of law, opposition to the third-term agenda and alleged contributions to economic growth and the expansion of telecommunications.
Meanwhile, Fadeyi criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu, particularly its economic policies, and urged Nigerians to consider the ADC as an alternative in the 2027 elections. He said the party would continue to mobilise support for its candidates across the country.
