Advertising practitioner Taiwo Osunsanya dies after medical emergency on Lagos-Ibadan train
A prominent advertising practitioner and alumnus of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Taiwo Osunsanya, has died after reportedly suffering a medical emergency while travelling on the Lagos-Ibadan train on Friday.
Osunsanya, who was associated with Mediapro Consulting Limited, was said to have developed health complications during the journey from Lagos to Ibadan, prompting an emergency response from passengers and train personnel.
His wife, Mrs. Folake Sunkanmi Osunsanya, said he experienced breathing difficulties while on board the train. She explained that those around him immediately attempted to stabilise his condition by administering first aid.
According to her, the train continued to Abeokuta station, where railway staff quickly arranged for him to be taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, for urgent medical attention. However, he reportedly died before reaching the hospital.
“He boarded the train from Lagos to Ibadan. While on the train, they said he was not breathing well. They administered first aid, but I think it wasn’t enough. When the train got to Abeokuta station, the staff took him to the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, but they said they could not make it to the hospital before he gave up,” Mrs. Osunsanya said.
She added that train personnel played an active role in conveying her husband to the hospital after the medical emergency occurred, although efforts to save his life were unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, members of the UNILAG alumni community have expressed shock and sadness over his sudden death, describing it as a painful loss to the institution and the advertising profession.
One of the alumni, Alhaji Tajudeen Adeyemi, said Osunsanya’s passing was especially heartbreaking because it came barely two weeks after he celebrated his 60th birthday on July 14. He prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul and asked God to grant comfort and strength to his family, friends, colleagues, and members of the UNILAG Alumni Association.
