AFCON U-20: Nigeria, Morocco play out goalless draw

By Olaolu Joseph

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles were held to a goalless draw by Morocco on Sunday at the ongoing CAF TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Both teams came into the Group B clash on the back of opening wins against Tunisia and Kenya, but neither side could find the breakthrough in a tightly contested encounter.

Despite limited chances, Nigeria came closest to scoring. Precious Benjamin nearly gave the Flying Eagles the lead in the first half with a well-taken free kick that struck the upright before being parried away by the Moroccan goalkeeper.

The result keeps both teams at the top of Group B with four points each, although Morocco leads on superior goal difference.

Earlier on Sunday, Tunisia bounced back from their 1-0 loss to Nigeria by defeating Kenya, who have now lost both of their matches.

Group B qualification will be decided on Wednesday, with Nigeria set to face already-eliminated Kenya, while Morocco will take on Tunisia in a crucial all-North African clash.

Meanwhile, Flying Eagles captain Daniel Bameyi was named Man of the Match for his commanding performance.
