Akure court arraigns teenager over alleged N429,500 theft

A 16-year-old boy, Lucky Blessing, has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrate’s Court in Ondo State for allegedly stealing property worth N429,500.

Blessing was charged with stealing after the police alleged that he committed the offence on May 14, 2026, at about 7pm beside Deborah Hospital, Iwode, Akure.

Addressing the court, police prosecutor, Folasade Adesuyi, said the teenager allegedly stole the items belonging to Ikemezuo Jerome at Oke-Ijebu, near the hospital.

Among the items allegedly stolen were a golden boiler valued at N200,000, five frying pans worth N125,000, four bushing machines valued at N8,000 and two sewing machines worth N10,500.

The prosecution said the alleged offence contravened Sections 383 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. I, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, who was not represented by counsel, was informed that the prosecution planned to call three witnesses to establish its case.

Following an application by the prosecutor for an adjournment, Magistrate T.G. Alphonso granted the teenager bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

The court ordered that Blessing be remanded at the juvenile home pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions and adjourned the case until September 20, 2026, for hearing.
