APC sweeps Gombe LG elections, wins all chairmanship, councillorship seats

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a clean sweep in the Gombe State local government elections, winning all 24 chairmanship positions and 240 councillorship seats across the state.

The results were announced on Saturday by the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC) following the conclusion of voting across the state’s 114 wards and 2,988 polling units.

Six political parties participated in the chairmanship election, including the APC, Youth Party (YP), National Rescue Movement (NRM), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), African Action Congress (AAC) and Democratic Liberation Alliance (DLA).

The election covered the 11 constitutionally recognised local government areas and the 13 newly created Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), bringing the total number of chairmanship positions contested to 24, while voters also elected 240 councillors.

Voting commenced early in most polling units, with electoral officials conducting accreditation and balloting in an orderly manner. Security personnel maintained a visible presence throughout the exercise, while election observers monitored the process.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who voted at Yahaya Umaru Polling Unit in Gombe, commended the peaceful conduct of the election and urged political parties and candidates to accept the outcome in the interest of democracy and the state’s development.

Reports from across the state’s three senatorial districts indicated that the polls were generally peaceful, with voters expressing confidence in the electoral process and participating without major disruptions.

Election observers under the Network of Civil Society Groups also described the exercise as orderly, noting that the turnout reflected growing public interest in grassroots governance and accountable local leadership.
