BREAKING: Tinubu to visit Japan, Brazil for investment talks, TICAD9 Summit

President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Thursday for a two-nation trip to Japan and Brazil, with a stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
In Japan, the President will attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), scheduled to hold in Yokohama from August 20 to 22. The summit, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” will focus on driving Africa’s economic transformation through private investment, innovation, and institutional reforms, while promoting human security, peace, and stability.
Tinubu is expected to participate in plenary sessions, hold bilateral meetings, and engage Japanese corporate executives whose companies have investments in Nigeria. TICAD, initiated by Japan in 1993 and co-hosted by the United Nations, UNDP, African Union Commission, and World Bank, serves as a key platform for dialogue between African leaders and development partners. The last edition was held in Tunisia in 2022.
Following TICAD9, President Tinubu will proceed to Brasilia, Brazil’s capital, on a two-day state visit from August 24 to 25 at the invitation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
In Brazil, Tinubu will meet his host for bilateral talks and participate in a business forum aimed at deepening trade and investment ties. His delegation, comprising key ministers and senior government officials, will negotiate agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance cooperation between both nations.
