‘Character deficit worse than budget deficit’ — Clergy challenges Akwa Ibomites at Prayer Summit

A powerful charge on the importance of character took center stage at the recently concluded three-day Prayer Summit in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, as clerics challenged citizens and leaders to embrace integrity and humility for the state’s growth.

Preaching on the topic “Understanding the Light and Brightness that Attract Nations and Kings to Us” from Matthew 5:1–16, Rev. Emmanuel Iniama, General Overseer of Achievers Assembly, Eket, declared that a deficit in character is more dangerous than a budget deficit. He stressed that the rise or fall of a man or society is closely tied to values and ethical behavior.

“Many think poor funding is our major challenge, but I tell you, it is the lack of character. When people treat subordinates with disrespect and use positions to oppress others, they weaken the soul of a community,” he said. Rev. Iniama called on Akwa Ibomites to exemplify love, respect, and accountability in every sphere of life.

His message resonated with thousands of worshippers gathered at the International Christian Worship Centre, Uyo, for the summit aimed at dedicating the third year of Governor Umo Eno’s administration to God. The event featured praise, worship, prophetic sessions, and intercessory prayers.

Also ministering was Apostle (Dr.) Emmanuel Nuhu Kure of Throneroom Trust Ministry, Kaduna State, who preached on the theme “Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn” (Isaiah 60:3). He encouraged Christians to stand firm in their faith and sustain the spiritual heritage of Akwa Ibom.

Apostle Kure made several prophetic declarations, blessing the commencement of the third year in office for Governor Eno and pronouncing favor and progress upon the state.

Governor Umo Eno, in his remarks, thanked citizens for their unity, commitment, and participation in the summit. He emphasized that peace and prosperity are only possible in a climate of unity, calling for sustained collaboration among citizens, regardless of political differences.

Dignitaries at the summit included members of the State Executive Council, clergy from various denominations, political leaders, and Christian faithful from within and outside the state. The Governor pledged continued alignment with divine direction as the administration pursues its development goals under the ARISE Agenda.
