Court orders police probe into complaint against Senator Fadahunsi

A Magistrate Court sitting in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, has directed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, to investigate a criminal complaint involving Senator Francis Fadahunsi and Pelumi Olajengbesi.
The directive was contained in a letter dated August 13, 2026, signed by the Registrar of the court, Abdulraham M. Yusuf, and addressed to the AIG. The court directed the police to investigate the complaint and report back within two weeks.
The complaint followed a legal dispute between Fadahunsi and Olajengbesi over statements attributed to the senator during television interviews. In a letter of demand dated August 12, Olajengbesi’s lawyers, Law Corridor, accused Fadahunsi of making defamatory statements about their client during interviews on Viable TV on July 2 and Channels Television’s Politics Today on August 11.
The lawyers alleged that Fadahunsi, during the July 2 interview, referred to Olajengbesi’s origin and accused him of “using thugs, Eiye and Aye.” They also cited an August 11 statement in which Fadahunsi allegedly described Ajayi Aderogba, also known as Rogba, as an “Eiye man sponsored by Barr. Olajengbesi.”
Olajengbesi, through his lawyers, denied the allegations and described them as false, defamatory and injurious to his personal, professional and political reputation. They identified him as a legal practitioner, spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council and Accord Party candidate for the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency.
The lawyers demanded an unreserved and unequivocal apology from Fadahunsi through the same media platforms where the statements were made, as well as a retraction and a written undertaking not to repeat or republish the allegations.
They gave Fadahunsi 24 hours to comply, warning that legal proceedings would follow without further notice. The lawyers also said Olajengbesi would seek N10 billion in damages and an injunction restraining further publication of the alleged defamatory statements.
The court directed the police to investigate the complaint pursuant to Section 89(5) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, and submit their findings within two weeks.
