Daniel David’s survival of an alleged attempt on life

A member of IPOB and the Acting Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Ihiala Zone, Mr. Daniel Oganiru David recounted the events surrounding what he described as an attempt on his life.
Daniel stated that he participated in an IPOB protest held in Ihiala on 30 November 2024 against what supporters described as the unjust detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who is the leader of the indigenous people of Biafra(IPOB). During the protest, eyewitnesses reported that a clash occurred between IPOB supporters and the police, resulting in numerous injuries and the deaths of several individuals, including Daniel’s friends.
According to eyewitnesses, on 20 January 2025, there was a confrontation between the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and the police in Ihiala Local Government Area, during which several police officers at a checkpoint were reportedly killed. Following this incident, the police allegedly launched a crackdown, arresting individuals they recognized, as well as those identified by informants as members or supporters of IPOB.
Mr. Daniel stated that police officers later came to his family home in Ihiala in an attempt to arrest him. He reported that during the operation, his sister, Chioma David, was struck by police gunfire and died as a result of her injuries. He further stated that he managed to escape the attack and went into hiding to avoid arrest.
Mr. Daniel stated that he fears that if he is located by the Nigerian security forces, he will be arrested, detained, or subjected to further persecution because of his alleged involvement with IPOB and his role as the Acting Public Relations Officer for the Ihiala Zone
