Two children electrocuted by fallen power cable in Ondo

Two seven-year-old boys, Oloyede Ayo and Clinton Koleola, have died after they were electrocuted by a live electricity cable that reportedly fell on a shop in Idanre, Ondo State.

The incident occurred on Saturday along Apefon Road in Idanre, throwing residents into confusion as the children came into contact with the fallen cable.

The boys were reportedly inside the shop when the electricity cable suddenly fell on the building. The incident caused panic and prompted them to attempt to escape from the premises.

An eyewitness said the children tried to flee the shop but stepped into contact with the live cable, resulting in their electrocution.

The incident was subsequently reported to the police, who commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, said preliminary findings showed that a live electricity cable had fallen on the shop.

Jimoh said the children were electrocuted while attempting to escape from the building, adding that the command was investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.

The police spokesperson sympathised with the families of the deceased and assured them that the command would conduct a thorough investigation to establish what caused the deaths.
