Ekiti man arraigned over alleged N3.8m fraud

A 41-year-old man, Oladeji Ojo, has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, over an alleged N3.8 million fraud.

The prosecution alleged that Ojo converted N3.8 million belonging to Rotimi Ojumola to his personal use in June 2026.

According to the prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police Akinwale Oriyomi, the alleged offence occurred at about 10 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti, within the jurisdiction of the court.

Oriyomi told the court that the alleged offence contravened Section 329(3) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021.

However, defence counsel, A.F. Awe, urged the court to grant Ojo bail, assuring that the defendant would remain available for the proceedings and would not abscond.

Awe also undertook to produce the RAV4 vehicle allegedly connected to the case and ensure that it remained at the court premises.

The prosecutor opposed the bail application, arguing that the defendant had been tracked before his arrest and might fail to comply with the conditions if released.

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted Ojo bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. He also ordered that the RAV4 vehicle be kept at the court premises and adjourned the case until October 30, 2026, for hearing.
