EFCC, Army renew commitment to joint fight against corruption, economic sabotage
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army have renewed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in the fight against corruption, economic sabotage and other threats to national security through enhanced intelligence sharing and operational cooperation.
The renewed pledge was made on Thursday during a courtesy visit by the Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, Adebayo Adeniyi, to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Abdulrahman Babalola, at the division’s headquarters in Lagos.
Speaking during the visit, Adeniyi stressed the importance of sustained collaboration among security and law enforcement agencies, noting that inter-agency cooperation had become increasingly necessary in addressing evolving security and economic crime challenges.
He said both institutions had recorded significant successes through joint operations and intelligence-driven engagements, adding that stronger collaboration would enhance efforts to tackle economic and financial crimes, terrorist financing and other forms of economic sabotage.
“There are so many things we can do together. In the area of intelligence gathering, we have done a lot together, and we still have more to do. We are here to strengthen our synergy and identify areas where we can continue to support one another,” Adeniyi said.
He further emphasised the need for information sharing and closer cooperation between agencies, describing both institutions as key stakeholders in protecting Nigeria’s security and economic stability.
Adeniyi also disclosed that the EFCC operates advanced forensic laboratories that could support the military’s investigative and intelligence activities whenever required.
In his response, Babalola commended the EFCC for its efforts in combating corruption, economic crimes and financial misconduct, describing collaboration among security agencies as critical to safeguarding the country. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to sustaining strategic cooperation with the anti-graft agency in the collective fight against corruption and economic sabotage.
