Engage with government agencies, RMAFC Chairman urges Nigerians

The Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Muhammed Bello Shehu, has encouraged Nigerians to seek out information on the activities of government agencies to better understand the workings of their government.
This call was made during an address to students from Igbinedion University Okada, Benin City, who visited the Commission on an excursion.
Represented by Hajia Salamatu Muhammed Bala, a member of the Commission representing Adamawa State, Shehu commended the students for their initiative.
“It is important to know what revenue mobilisation does on behalf of the country.
“The Commission carries out many functions, but the most crucial is monitoring accruals into the federation account. The RMAFC must know where these monies are coming from, how they are coming, and where these monies go when they come out of the federation account,” Bala stated.
She assured the students that the Commission was pleased to host them and that directors from various departments were available to further educate them on the organisation’s functions.
Emphasizing the importance of public understanding of government operations, she added, “We are very pleased to share our experiences with you, and I believe if we are able to do that often, we will have a common purpose, work towards it, and Nigeria will be better for it.”
Also speaking during the visit, Professor Madu Magnus Emeka, the leader of the student delegation, explained that the purpose of the visit was to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in public finance.
“This visit is part of the university’s commitment to bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in the field of public finance.
“The students have been eager to visit agencies in Abuja to gain firsthand experience and interact with the people behind the operations we study,” Emeka noted.
During the visit, several directors from different departments of the Commission, including Mrs. Udodirim Okwongu (Inland Revenue), Mr. Peter Nyabiri (Gas and Investment), Dr. Rosetta Iyere (PRS), and Mr. Ambrose Akhilome (Fiscal Efficiency), provided detailed insights into the Commission’s functions.
