Eno gives contractors two-week ultimatum over delayed Judiciary Quarters project

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has warned Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and contractors handling government projects against delays, saying poor supervision and slow execution will no longer be tolerated.

Eno issued the warning on Wednesday during an unscheduled inspection of the ongoing Judiciary Quarters project in Uyo, where he expressed disappointment over the slow pace of work and the absence of workers at the site despite the release of funds for the project.

The Judiciary Quarters project is a 50-unit housing development comprising five-bedroom duplexes designed to provide official accommodation for judges and other top judicial officers in the state.

The governor criticised officials responsible for monitoring the project, stressing that government should not have to pursue contractors and workers to execute projects for which they had already been paid.

He gave the contractors a two-week ultimatum to substantially improve work on the project or risk the termination of their contracts, warning that any funds owed to the government would be recovered.

Eno also lamented that although many people complained about unemployment, some beneficiaries of government opportunities failed to demonstrate commitment to their responsibilities.

He maintained that employment and government patronage should be earned through diligence and hard work rather than favouritism or handouts.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to timely project delivery, insisting that the Judiciary Quarters project, which commenced in January, must be completed and ready for commissioning by December.
