Father demands justice after Dangote truck kills son, destroys home in Ekiti

A distraught father, Mr Rufus Farotimi, has appealed to the Ekiti State government for justice and support after a truck rammed into his home and claimed the life of his son, Promise, in Aramoko-Ekiti.

The bereaved’s son was 21-year-old and a 300-level student of Building Technology department at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti.

Speaking with journalists, the grieving father described the incident as devastating, noting that he lost both his child and his home in a single moment.

“My son was killed, and my house was destroyed. I have lost everything, including my belongings,” he lamented.

Farotimi disclosed that the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the crash, while residents apprehended the driver’s assistant.

He added that documents recovered from the vehicle indicated it was conveying natural gypsum and bore details linking it Dangote Cement Plc, with the driver identified as Shuaibu Yusuf.

While acknowledging that the police had begun an investigation, he expressed concern that the driver remained at large days after the incident, thereby calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to arrest the suspect, urging that Dangote Cement Plc connected to the truck takes full responsibility for the damage.

Promise’s father also decried the poor condition of the road, adding that frequent accidents on it were also caused by the recklessness of truck drivers.

Reacting to the tragic incident, a community leader, Mrs. Caroline Ogunleye, corroborated his claims, attributing the tragedy to over speeding and the deteriorating road, and urged the government to urgently rehabilitate the route and enforce traffic regulations.
