Former speaker warns Ondo APC of looming crisis, seeks national intervention

Former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Jumoke Akindele, has warned the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State that unresolved internal grievances could fuel anti-party activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Akindele raised the concern in a statement posted on her verified Facebook page, expressing worry over reports that some APC members were allegedly supporting candidates of opposition parties in the forthcoming elections.
She cautioned that such actions could weaken the party’s electoral prospects and urged the APC leadership to urgently address the grievances of aggrieved members through genuine reconciliation.
“Unless appropriate reconciliatory moves are urgently put in place by the party at the national level, what obtains now is what may continue to happen across the state,” she stated.
Akindele said the situation was particularly concerning in Ondo South, where, she alleged, some party members had become frustrated by what they considered unfair treatment and could seek to retaliate through their political actions.
“These people have been hurt. They are flesh and blood. They have a right to cry foul and they certainly have the propensity to exact revenge on the party. You cannot beat a child and also tell him when and how to cry,” she added.
Meanwhile, she questioned the effectiveness of the reconciliation committee established by the state chapter, asking whether those involved in the disputes should be leading efforts to reconcile aggrieved members. She warned that the party could continue to experience internal divisions unless the national leadership or its candidates moved quickly to address the grievances.
Despite her reservations, the former speaker appealed to disgruntled APC members to sheath their swords, stressing that internal disagreements should not jeopardize their political future. She also declared her support for the APC and President Bola Tinubu’s continuity agenda, saying, “I’m neither for Paul nor for Apollo. I am for APC. I stand on the mandate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for Continuity. Whatever it takes!”
