Gbajabiamila hails Enikanolaiye as national asset at send-off ceremony

Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has described Minister of State-designate for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, as a national asset, expressing confidence in his ability to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements.

Gbajabiamila made the remarks on Wednesday during a send-off ceremony organised by the Office of the Chief of Staff at the State House in Abuja to honour Enikanolaiye ahead of his assumption of office.

President Bola Tinubu appointed the career diplomat and former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs on April 29, 2026. Before the appointment, Enikanolaiye served for three years as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations in the Office of the Chief of Staff.

Speaking at the event, Gbajabiamila said Enikanolaiye’s extensive experience in diplomacy, international relations and academia had prepared him for the demands of ministerial office.

“When I resumed duty, I had three names from which to choose a Senior Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs. I did not know any of them, but I chose Ambassador Enikanolaiye. I can’t remember exactly why, but I am happy that I did,” he said.

According to the Chief of Staff, the ambassador distinguished himself through dedication, professionalism and an exemplary work ethic.

“You have proven yourself to be a man of exemplary work ethic. With your commitment and dedication to duty, I have no doubt in my mind that wherever you go, you will succeed,” he added.

Gbajabiamila also commended President Tinubu for elevating Enikanolaiye to ministerial rank, noting that Nigeria would benefit from his institutional knowledge and diplomatic expertise.
