German President, Steinmeier arrives Nigeria on official state visit

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Tuesday night arrived in Nigeria for a four-day official visit.
He was welcomed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
Steinmeier also welcomed with a display of cultural dance.
The visit, scheduled to run until December 12, 2024, includes a series of high-level engagements and cultural interactions aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Germany and Nigeria.
According to reports, the visit is also aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and fostering regional cooperation.
Key Meetings in Abuja
While in Abuja, President Steinmeier is expected to hold discussions with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, focusing on cooperation in trade, security, and regional stability.
He will also meet with Alieu Omar Touray, President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, to discuss Germany’s support for ECOWAS initiatives.
Engagements in Lagos
President Steinmeier will then proceed to Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub, where he will engage with business leaders and explore opportunities for German investment in the country.
The Lagos leg of the visit will also feature a tour of the city to explore its urban development, environmental challenges, and social initiatives in addressing the complexities of a rapidly growing megacity.
