Governor Aiyedatiwa commissions Ondo’s first drug rehab facility

By Boye Oyeyemi –

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has commissioned the state’s first-ever specialist mental health and drug rehabilitation centre, Minds Medica Specialist Hospital, in Ondo City.

Speaking at the event, the governor commended the founder, Dr. Jibayo Adeyeye, for what he described as a bold and visionary step toward addressing mental health and drug addiction challenges in the state.

“The establishment of Minds Medica is a testament to the vision and dedication of its founder, Dr. Jibayo Adeyeye. His personal encounter and subsequent research have led to the creation of this magnificent institution, which promises to redefine mental healthcare and drug addiction rehabilitation in our state,” Aiyedatiwa said.

In his remarks, Dr. Adeyeye explained that the centre would be run primarily for service to humanity rather than profit-making. He said the hospital’s mission is to restore people battling mental health challenges and substance abuse to normalcy so they can become useful members of society.

“Our focus is to rid society of abuse in whatever people consume and help rehabilitate those already addicted. Minds Medica is not for profit-making but must be run sustainably. Very soon, Minds Medica Foundation will be inaugurated to source funds for indigent or neglected patients,” he stated.

Co-founder, Professor Olufunke Adeyeye, pledged that the family would continue to invest in humanity’s uplift while urging families, religious groups, and individuals to support the fight against drug abuse.

The facility, described as the first of its kind in Ondo State, also received commendations from the Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo, the Bishop of Ondo Anglican Diocese, Rev. Stephen Oni, and the Chairman of Ondo West Local Government, Hon. Ayotunde Akinfolarin, who all lauded the initiative as timely and impactful.
