Governors’ wives attend 2-day training with NDLEA, commit to campaign against drug abuse

Wives of Governors have attended a 2-day training on response to drugs and related organised crimes in Nigeria to stem the wave of illicit drugs in the country.
The training was organised by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC) with the support from European Union in Nigeria.
Speaking on the importance of the training and the urgency to combat drug abuse in Nigeria because of how it is destroying the lives of young people especially, Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi who led her colleagues to the training noted that the Governors’ Wives Forum had earlier met with the Chairman of NDLEA, General Buba Marwa where they adopted Drug Abuse Prevention as project of the forum.


Mrs. Fayemi praised the Northern Governors’ Wives who have been working with NDLEA to combat drug abuse that has become an epidemic in the region promising that Southern Governors’ Wives will also take the lead in the campaign.
“I and my colleagues and sisters attended a 2-day training program on Response to Drugs and Related Organised Crimes in Nigeria. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Drugs and Crimes (UNODC), with support from the Delegation of the European Union to Nigeria, are responsible for the training programme, which started today.
“Recently, a delegation from the NGWF met with the NDLEA Chairman to inform him that we have decided to adopt Drug Abuse Prevention as another flagship project of our Forum. Our members have worked with NDLEA in the past, with particular reference to the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum, who have participated in NDLEA activities and served on committees. The Southern Governors’ Wives Forum also recently decided to focus on Drug Abuse as a matter of utmost concern. As a result, the entire body of Governors’ Wives is committed to addressing this serious issue,” said Erelu Fayemi.
