Healthcare reforms under Tinubu strengthening Nigeria’s medical sector – Information Minister

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said the deliberate health policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are gradually addressing the challenge of brain drain and stimulating medical industrialisation in Nigeria.

Idris stated this on Friday in Abuja at the Fourth Attestation Ceremony for the 2025 class of Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) students of Nile University of Nigeria.

He said recent interventions by the Federal Government, including the launch of six oncology centres across the country and the rehabilitation of tertiary healthcare facilities, demonstrated a clear commitment to strengthening the health sector.

According to the minister, these initiatives are indicators that Nigeria’s healthcare system is on a steady path towards becoming world-class, supported by policies designed to encourage local medical production and industrial growth.

Idris urged medical professionals to align with President Tinubu’s vision, noting that the administration is working to create an enabling environment that allows health workers to practise comfortably within the country.

He added that ongoing improvements in the sector, particularly the revamping of primary healthcare facilities and increased funding, are contributing significantly to the growth of medical industrialisation in Nigeria.

A total of 58 students participated in the attestation ceremony after completing six years of academic training in medicine and surgery at Nile University, Abuja.

Among the graduands was Rukaya Mohammed Idris, daughter of the minister, who took the medical oath alongside her colleagues before parents, guardians and invited guests.
