Human remains found in suspect’s residence amid ongoing robbery investigation

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Awomehinde Tope, over an alleged theft case that led to the discovery of items suspected to be human remains and other incriminating exhibits in his home Ile-Oluji.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, noting that the suspect was apprehended on April 11, 2026, following a complaint lodged against him by his father.

According to the police, the suspect allegedly stole three motorcycles, nine goats, palm oil, mobile phones, gas cylinders, gold items, and other household materials belonging to his father, Awomehinde Kehinde.

Jimoh stated that operatives acted promptly on the report, leading to the arrest of the suspect and the commencement of further investigation into the matter.

A search of the suspect’s residence, the police said, uncovered items of serious concern, including a bone suspected to be human remains, charms, native sponges, black soap, and an expended AK-47 ammunition shell.

The spokesperson added that the recovered exhibits are of investigative interest and would undergo forensic examination to determine their origin and any possible criminal links.

Further investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects, identified as John Vincent and Olakintan Oladele, who were found in another location connected to the case but failed to provide satisfactory explanations.

The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, assured residents that the command would thoroughly investigate the case and ensure that all suspects are charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, while urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
