In a rather shocking turn of events, the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, disclosed that he is yet to see a copy of the 2026 Electoral Act, despite that it was signed by President Tinubu two weeks ago.
While making this revelation on Saturday in Ikenne-Remo, Makinde expressed concern over the fact that the law is yet to be made publicly accessible, a situation he said could potentially limit citizens and leaders from fully understanding its provisions.
Speaking on the current trend of massive political defections in the political class, the governor stressed the importance of true federalism for sustainable progress.
According to him, federalism would ensure equitable development and more effective governance across the nation when put to good use.
He further warned that the current challenges facing the country are man-made, while reaffirming his support for a multi-party state, highlighted by a strong opposition that is willing to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Drawing lessons from Obafemi Awolowo, Seyi Makinde called for collective responsibility among political leaders and citizens to safeguard peace and stability, adding that his administration has adopted Awolowo’s governance philosophy which emphasizes evidence-based decision-making guided by science, logic, and data.
He further urged political elites and citizens to prioritize dialogue, transparency, and inclusiveness, while stressing that the nation’s growth and stability depends on collective action and visionary leadership.
