IGP Disu honoured at Lagos banquet, pledges professional policing in Nigeria

The Inspector-General of the Nigeria Police Force , Olatunji Rilwan Disu, was on Saturday honoured at a banquet hosted by the Lagos State Government following his appointment as the nation’s police chief.
The event, held at the Lagos State House in Marina, brought together government officials, security stakeholders and members of the public to celebrate Disu’s career in law enforcement.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who led the delegation, described the IGP as a product of Lagos whose professional journey reflects discipline, service and leadership.
He noted that the honour also recognised Disu’s contributions during his time as commander of the Rapid Response Squad, where he was credited with strengthening security operations and building public confidence.
Speaking at the event, Disu expressed appreciation to the state government and residents, describing the reception as a homecoming and reflecting on his years of service in Lagos.
He reaffirmed his commitment to professional policing, pledging to restore public trust, uphold discipline within the force and deepen community engagement across the country.
The police chief also emphasised the need for stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos State Government and other stakeholders, including the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, to enhance safety and stability.
Disu urged Nigerians to support law enforcement agencies, stressing that security is a collective responsibility involving government, the private sector and citizens.
