Ikogosi community backs Oyebanji with ₦25m, pledges grassroots mobilisation for re-election
The Ikogosi community in Ekiti State has pledged financial and grassroots mobilisation support for the re-election bid of Governor Biodun Oyebanji ahead of the forthcoming polls.
The Ikogosi Progressives Union (IPU) and the Oyebanji Age Group, Egbe Ayonimofe, jointly donated ₦25 million at a community engagement held at the governor’s residence, signalling strong local endorsement of his candidacy.
The IPU contributed ₦20 million alongside 200 customised shirts and face caps, while Egbe Ayonimofe added ₦5 million, reinforcing what stakeholders described as consolidated community support.
Speaking at the event, IPU President, Mr Agbaje Olusola, said the gesture represented more than financial assistance, describing it as a firm political endorsement of a leader the community considers its pride.
He cited the governor’s achievements in infrastructure renewal, social investment and inclusive governance, noting that his administration has maintained strong grassroots engagement.
Both groups announced plans to organise rallies across Ikogosi and neighbouring communities to deepen grassroots mobilisation, including a major rally scheduled for May 2, 2026, which will also serve as a platform for voter education and sensitisation.
Responding, Governor Oyebanji expressed appreciation for the support, describing it as a demonstration of loyalty and shared ownership. He assured the community that his administration would continue to deliver greater dividends of democracy across Ekiti State.
“I will not take this trust for granted,” the governor said, reaffirming his commitment to deepen development efforts and sustain progress across critical sectors.
