Kaduna: Police confirm abduction of 177 Christian worshippers in Kurmin Wali community
The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that 177 Christian worshippers were abducted in Kurmin Wali, a remote community in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The confirmation comes after initial conflicting reports had raised concern among residents and the wider public.
According to a statement issued by the Force on Tuesday, the Kaduna State Security Council convened a meeting at the Government House in Kaduna following the initial reports. Some community members reportedly disputed the initial police confirmation, describing it as false, prompting the need for careful verification.
The Police explained that comments made by the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police during a media briefing were intended to prevent public panic while facts were being verified. The remarks were not a denial of the incident but a measured response pending confirmation from operational units and intelligence sources.
Subsequent investigations have now confirmed the abduction. In response, the Nigeria Police Force has launched coordinated security operations in collaboration with other security agencies to locate and safely rescue the victims while restoring order in the community.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the full deployment of operational and intelligence resources to Kajuru and neighbouring communities. This includes tactical units, intensified patrols, targeted search-and-rescue operations, and other proactive measures to protect lives and property.
The Police have urged the public and media to rely on official communications for verified information and to avoid speculation that could jeopardise ongoing operations or heighten public anxiety.
“The safety of every citizen is our utmost priority, and we remain fully committed to providing timely updates as developments unfold,” the statement added.
