Kara bridge repairs begin March 10 as FG urges motorists to use alternative routes

The Federal Ministry of Works has issued a travel advisory to motorists following its earlier announcement of the planned replacement of damaged expansion joints on the Kara Bridge, outbound Lagos.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Engr. Olayiwola Komolafe, said the maintenance work will commence on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, and is expected to last for two weeks, ending on March 24, 2026.

According to the Travel Advisory, to minimise traffic congestion during the repair period, motorists have been advised to consider alternative routes.

Motorists travelling from Ikorodu to Mowe, Sagamu, and Ibadan are advised to use the Shimawa or Mosinmi routes. Those travelling from Lagos Island may take the Epe corridor through Ijebu Ode to access Sagamu, Ibadan, and Mowe.

The ministry urged road users to plan their journeys in advance and comply with traffic management directives around the construction area.

“Motorists are reminded that a shorter route may not necessarily be the fastest. They are therefore advised to plan their journeys early, obey traffic management directives, and drive cautiously around the work zone,” the statement said.

The ministry expressed regret over any inconvenience the temporary partial closure may cause and appealed for public understanding.

“The Federal Ministry of Works regrets any inconvenience this temporary partial closure may cause and appreciates the understanding and cooperation of the motoring public as the ministry continues its efforts to ensure the safety, durability, and stability of the nation’s road infrastructure,” the statement added.
