The Oyo State Government has commenced the renovation of 36 public primary and secondary schools across the state’s five geo-political zones as part of efforts to improve learning environments and strengthen public education.

The intervention, under the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, targets ageing and dilapidated school infrastructure.

According to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education Intervention, Oloye Suraj Abiodun Tiamy, the programme is designed to address urgent infrastructural challenges while ensuring equitable distribution of projects across local government areas.

Tiamy explained that beneficiary schools were selected through a needs-based assessment focusing on safety, functionality and conducive learning conditions.

He noted that the spread of projects across Ibadan, Oyo, Ogbomoso, Oke-Ogun and Ibarapa zones reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive development across urban and rural communities.

He emphasised that improved infrastructure contributes significantly to better learning outcomes, stating that functional classrooms enhance student motivation and teacher effectiveness. He also assured that the government is maintaining strict monitoring and supervision to ensure quality delivery and value for money.

Among the schools benefiting from the renovation are Army Day Secondary School, Odogbo, Ojoo, and Community Secondary School, Sango-Ibon, in Akinyele LGA; Iba High School and Adasobo Grammar School in Kisi, Irepo LGA; and Molete Community Grammar School in Ogbomoso South LGA.

In Ibadan, ongoing works include Ikolaba Grammar School, Ikolaba High School, Ikolaba Primary School, Methodist Grammar School, Community Grammar School Mokola, Emmanuel College Agbowo, St. Paul Anglican Primary School Apata, I.M.G. Primary School Oke Bola and Islamic Mission School Bode, among others spread across several local government areas.
