Makinde fulfils promise, hands over house, wheelchair to Oyo resident with disability

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has fulfilled his promise to provide a new house and a wheelchair to a resident living with a physical disability, Mr. Babatunde Oluwadaisi Isiah Chesire.
The symbolic handover took place on Monday at the newly completed house behind King’s College, Moniya, Ibadan, where officials of the Oyo State Government presented the keys to Chesire in fulfilment of a pledge the governor made earlier this year.
The Director-General of the Oyo State Agency for Persons with Disabilities, Ayodele Adekanmbi, and the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Disability Matters, Olufemi Timothy, conducted the presentation and said the gesture reflected the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance.
Makinde made the promise in January during the “Oyo at 50” programme for persons with disabilities at Omololu Park, Airport Junction, after Chesire appealed for assistance, explaining that he, his wife and children had been forced out of their former home in Moniya.
Meanwhile, Adekanmbi said the governor’s intervention had restored hope, dignity and stability to the beneficiary, adding that the agency also presented cash support to Chesire and urged him to preserve the house as a lasting legacy for his family.
Similarly, Timothy commended Makinde for prioritising the welfare of persons with disabilities, noting that the administration had provided employment opportunities, vehicles, land allocations and other forms of support to beneficiaries across the state.
In his remarks, an emotional Chesire thanked the governor for fulfilling his promise, saying he never imagined he would become a homeowner after enduring years of rejection, hardship and displacement.
He added that Makinde was the first Oyo State governor to demonstrate genuine concern for the welfare and inclusion of persons with disabilities, describing the gesture as a life-changing intervention that gave his family a fresh start.
