Military pressure forces 17 JAS family members to surrender in Borno
Sustained military pressure by troops of Operation HADIN KAI has forced 17 family members of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) to surrender in separate incidents in Borno State.
The military disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by Captain Mohammed Goni, the acting military information officer of Operation HADIN KAI, saying the surrenders occurred on August 4 in Konduga and Bama Local Government Areas.
According to the statement, 16 family members, comprising 10 women and six children, surrendered to troops of the 222 Battalion during a patrol along the Gezuwa axis in Konduga.
During preliminary questioning, the group reportedly told troops that the sustained offensive against terrorist hideouts forced them to abandon the insurgents and surrender. Soldiers also recovered ₦92,000 from the group.
In a separate incident the same day, an 11-year-old JAS family member surrendered to troops of the 202 Battalion in Bama Local Government Area, also attributing the decision to the military’s sustained operations.
The military said all the surrendered individuals are currently in custody undergoing profiling and debriefing before being handed over to the appropriate authorities for rehabilitation and other necessary procedures.
It added that the latest development reflects the gains being recorded through ongoing operations aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves, disrupting their logistics and denying them freedom of movement across the region.
