Mobihealth, UNILAG Pharmacy launch telehealth programme for students, staff

Mobihealth International and UNILAG Pharmacy have partnered to make healthcare more accessible to students, staff and other members of the University of Lagos community through a new telehealth facility.
The partnership brings together Mobihealth’s 24/7 digital healthcare platform and UNILAG Pharmacy’s physical pharmacy and diagnostic services, allowing students and staff to speak with doctors and specialists from their smartphones.
The service will cover general medical care, mental health, sexual and reproductive healthcare and other specialist services. Patients can also visit the facility for assisted teleconsultations, e-prescriptions, diagnostic services and medicines.
Speaking at the launch in Lagos, the partners said medications could also be delivered discreetly to locations chosen by patients, making it easier for members of the university community to access care without spending long periods waiting at hospitals or clinics.
UNILAG will also serve as the flagship institution for the Mobihealth Telehealth Champions Programme (MTCP), which will train students in telehealth, digital health, artificial intelligence, research, innovation, health advocacy and community engagement.
Mobihealth Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Funmi Adewara, said the partnership would combine digital healthcare with trusted physical pharmacy and diagnostic services while equipping students to become advocates for digital health.
Pharm. Abimbola Adebakin, chairman, Board of Directors, UNILAG Pharmacy, said the initiative would bring medical and specialist care closer to more than 50,000 students, staff and members of the wider university community, describing it as “health equity in action”.
The Managing Director of UNILAG Pharmacy, Dr Evelyn Brambifa, said the initiative would help transform the pharmacy into a more comprehensive, technology-enabled healthcare centre by reducing queues and waiting times and bringing medical expertise closer to the people it serves.
