NDC grants Omo-Agege, Ochei waivers for 2027 senatorial contests in Delta

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has granted waivers to former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, and former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, allowing them to contest the Delta Central and Delta North senatorial seats respectively under the party’s platform in the 2027 general elections.

The decision was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, following the recent defection of both politicians from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the opposition NDC.

According to the party, the waivers were approved in recognition of the political experience, leadership capacity, and grassroots influence of both men, which it said would strengthen its prospects in Delta State.

The NDC expressed confidence that Omo-Agege and Ochei possess the competence and support base needed to deliver effective representation to their constituents.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, inclusion, transparency, and building a stronger platform for development in Delta State and Nigeria at large.

Omo-Agege recently resigned from the APC after weeks of speculation about his political future, citing extensive consultations with supporters and stakeholders across Delta State.

He said his move to the NDC was driven by the need for leadership anchored on integrity, accountability, and people-focused governance, adding that key political figures across the country had encouraged his decision.

The former deputy senate president also declared his intention to contest the Delta Central senatorial seat in 2027, promising to strengthen the party’s structure and pursue better representation for the people.
