NNPC/Renaissance JV donates $300,000 to enhance cancer treatment at National Hospital, Abuja

The NNPC/Renaissance Joint Venture (JV) has injected $300,000 into the National Hospital, Abuja, to support the operation and maintenance of its cutting-edge Linear Accelerator (LINAC) Radiotherapy Machine, a vital tool in the fight against cancer.

The LINAC machine, first donated by the JV in 2019, has become a cornerstone of the hospital’s cancer care program. It has treated more than 2,000 patients, reduced therapy session times from 12 minutes to just 2 minutes, and cut treatment costs by up to 80%. The funding also benefits indigent patients, with 712 individuals receiving subsidized care ranging from 25% to full coverage.

Speaking at an Abuja event, Engr. Oluwaseyi Omotowa, Chief Upstream Investment Officer of NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services, said, “This donation ensures timely maintenance, minimizes downtime, and guarantees precise calibration of the machine, safeguarding the quality of care for patients.”

Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Muhammed Ali Pate, commended the initiative, describing it as a model for corporate involvement in healthcare.

“Partnerships like this expand access to affordable cancer treatment and strengthen national healthcare infrastructure,” he said.

National Hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Muhammad Raji Mahmud, described the donation as a “lifeline of hope” for thousands of cancer patients and emphasized its role in reducing reliance on medical tourism.

Tony Attah, Managing Director of Renaissance Africa Energy Company, highlighted the broader impact of the contribution.

“This is not charity; it is an investment in the health and resilience of Nigerians, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to society,” he said.
