NPFL will block desperate club tactics – Elegbeleye

As the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) enters its final stages with just three games left, NPFL board chairman, Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye, has assured fans of a smooth and fair conclusion to the season.
Though Remo Stars have already secured the league title, Elegbeleye emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity as the battle for continental tickets and survival from relegation intensifies.
The former Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Sports stated that the league board will remain vigilant against any underhand tactics by clubs trying to avoid relegation or qualify for continental competitions.
“At this stage, clubs are desperate — either to escape relegation or to secure continental football. We know many may try to manipulate results, but we are ready and capable of preventing that,” he said.
“It’s not business as usual anymore. Whatever tricks are attempted, we know how to block the loopholes. The league will run smoothly until the final matchday,” he assured.
Elegbeleye, who is also a former Director General of the National Sports Commission, thanked Nigerians for their support and pledged continued improvement.
“Our best is yet to come. We are growing, and we will keep improving until we deliver the best football league in Africa,” he concluded.
