NRC MD inspects Idu Station, vows overhaul of train facilities

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Kayode Opeifa, on Friday undertook an unscheduled inspection of the Idu Railway Station in Abuja to assess the condition of train coaches and onboard facilities.
The visit followed recent reports alleging that toilets on the Abuja-Kaduna train service were entirely non-functional, sparking public criticism and concerns about hygiene standards.
Determined to address these concerns firsthand, Dr. Opeifa, accompanied by senior NRC officials and technical staff, boarded the train coaches to inspect the toilets and evaluate the overall state of the facilities.
Speaking during the inspection, Dr. Opeifa reaffirmed the NRC’s commitment to providing safe, clean, and comfortable services for all passengers.
“We take all feedback seriously—whether from the media or our valued passengers—and we remain dedicated to transparency and continuous improvement,” he said. “This visit demonstrates our resolve to ensure the highest standard of service at all times.”
The NRC assured the public that any deficiencies discovered during the inspection would be addressed promptly and encouraged passengers to continue providing constructive feedback to help strengthen Nigeria’s railway services.
