Ondo APC urges Rainbow Coalition to support all candidates, not just Tinubu

The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has opposed the reported arrangement by the Rainbow Coalition to support President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election while backing candidates of other parties in legislative contests.

The party said those campaigning for Tinubu should equally support APC candidates seeking seats in the Senate, House of Representatives and Ondo State House of Assembly.

The position was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the APC State Secretary, Alex Kalejaye, who said the proposed strategy had raised concerns within the party ahead of the elections.

Kalejaye said the Ondo APC would mobilise votes for Tinubu and its candidates across the three senatorial districts, nine federal constituencies and 26 state constituencies.

He added that the party had not entered into any arrangement with former members who defected and are now contesting under different political platforms, stressing that the APC remained focused on its own candidates.

The state secretary also warned party members against supporting rival candidates, saying anyone involved in activities considered detrimental to the APC’s electoral interests could face disciplinary action.

He urged members to avoid political alliances with opposition parties that could weaken the APC’s structure, while calling for greater unity and mobilisation as the party targets one million votes in Ondo State.

The APC further argued that supporting Tinubu at the presidential level while backing different parties in legislative elections could leave voters confused and create complications for the party’s campaign strategy.
