Tinubu hale, hearty, working despite vacation, says Onanuga

President Bola Tinubu is “hale and hearty” and has continued to work while on his annual vacation, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, has said.

Onanuga said this in a post on X on Sunday while responding to questions over Tinubu’s absence from the country and his non-attendance at the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.

“Nigeria’s President is hale and hearty. He has been on a working vacation, which he is perfectly entitled to,” Onanuga said.

He argued that Tinubu did not need to be physically present in Abuja to discharge his responsibilities, given the possibilities offered by modern technology.

“In this digital age, he does not need to be physically present in Abuja to do the work for which he was elected in 2023,” he said.

According to Onanuga, the President has remained engaged during the vacation, including holding meetings with investors in France.

“And we have seen that he has indeed been working, meeting investors in France, most recently facilitating a $7 billion deep-sea port in Ogun Waterside, an initiative of the Ogun State Government,” he said.

Onanuga also pointed to the absence of other African leaders from the UNGA, citing South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

“Two other important African leaders were not in New York for the UNGA: South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa and Egypt’s Abdel Fattah el-Sisi,” he said.
