The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Professor Tomola Obamuyi, has commended Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for approving a 60 per cent increase in subvention to the institution.
The governor also approved the immediate implementation of agreements reached between the Federal Government and university-based labour unions, a development expected to ease industrial tensions in the state-owned tertiary institutions.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan.
Reacting to the decisions, Obamuyi described the interventions as timely, saying they would help restore stability to the university and safeguard its academic calendar.
“The announcement is heartwarming. Coming barely two weeks after the governor approved a N1.1 billion bailout for our university, it demonstrates his concern for the welfare of the university community and the education of our students,” the VC said.
He added that the measures would help resolve the ongoing strike by academic staff and prevent other unions from embarking on planned industrial action.
Obamuyi said the increase in subvention to all state-owned tertiary institutions reflected the governor’s commitment to education, assuring that AAUA would ensure that the funds were properly and judiciously utilised.
The vice chancellor further said the intervention would boost staff morale and improve both academic and administrative productivity across the university.
