Organisers unveil draws for 2024 Obasa Games in Agege

The organisers of the 2024 Obasa Games revealed the draws for the multi-sport event on Tuesday at the Agege Local Government Area. The event will feature 32 teams from across the Lagos West Senatorial District, divided into eight groups with four teams each.

Held inside the multipurpose hall of the local government, the draw unveiled the opening fixture for the football event, which will see Lion Hearts FC face off against Ajegunle United.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for November 15, 2024, at Anwar-Islam Secondary School in Agege, with Dairy Farm Secondary School set as the second venue for the football matches.

Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Alhaji Ganiyu Obasa, encouraged participating teams to assemble strong line-ups. He also announced cash prizes for the top teams and individual awards for outstanding players.

The unveiling ceremony, lasting around 40 minutes, saw notable figures from the sports and political sectors in attendance, including Otunba Richard Akin Oshungboye, Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission; Hon. Abiodun Orekoya, Chairman of the House Committee on Sports; and Damilare Orimoloye, SSA on Sports to the Lagos State Governor. Former international players Waidi Akanni and Haruna Lookman, as well as Dele Atoun, General Secretary of the Lagos State Referees Association, also graced the event.

The Obasa Games is a multi-sport competition for U-19 male and female athletes from the Lagos West Senatorial District, featuring boxing, football, table tennis, chess, and scrabble.
