Police arrest two suspected armed robbers, recover gun, ammunition in Lagos

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a locally made cut-to-size Danne gun with three live cartridges during a crime prevention patrol in the Odogunyan area of the state.
The command said the suspects were arrested in a joint operation involving police operatives and members of a local vigilante group as part of ongoing efforts to combat crime and criminality across Lagos State.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the suspects were intercepted while carrying a handbag. The statement said they attempted to flee on sighting the security team but were swiftly apprehended.
A search of the handbag led to the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size Danne gun and three live cartridges, the police said.
The suspects were identified as Arowolo Damilola, 32, and Adewale Adeyinka, 29. Police said both men are in custody and are assisting investigators.
The command added that the suspects would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the operatives and members of the local vigilante group, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, praised their vigilance, prompt response and collaboration, which he said led to the successful arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the firearm.
Fatai reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Lagos State and warned criminal elements to desist from unlawful activities or face the full weight of the law. He also urged residents to promptly report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency lines.
