Police officer stabbed to death in Akure

A police officer whose name was not made public has been stabbed to death in Arakale, Akure, Ondo State, while carrying out his official duties.
WESTERN POST learnt that the incident prompted heightened security in the area.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, in a statement, said, “An incident occurred in the early hours of yesterday involving a police officer who was performing lawful duty in the said area.
The statement issued by DSP Olusola Olayinka explained that “an altercation ensued between the officer and some recalcitrant individuals, during which the officer was tragically stabbed. This unfortunate event triggered an immediate and coordinated police response.”
Following the attack, a team of police operatives was deployed to the scene, resulting in the arrest of two suspects, Shina Jacob, 25, and Felix Olalekan, 32.
The statement noted that the injured officer was rushed to the hospital but died despite medical intervention.
The Command reassured the public that officers are not above the law and warned that any attack on law enforcement personnel would be dealt with decisively.
The statement also cautioned residents against spreading unverified information online, which could cause unnecessary panic and strain security resources.
