Relief for students as LASU, LASUED, LASUSTECH lecturers end strike

Lecturers at Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) and Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) are to resume academic activities immediately following the suspension of their industrial action over staff welfare and outstanding agreements.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) announced the suspension on Friday, bringing relief to students and parents affected by the disruption.
In a joint statement reported by TVC News on Saturday, the union described the development as a significant milestone in its struggle for improved staff welfare and the implementation of outstanding agreements.
The statement was signed by Olusegun Babalola, Coordinator of the Steering Committee, ASUU-LASU; Grace Abimbola, Acting Chairman, ASUU-LASUED; and Murisiku Onigemo, Chairman, ASUU-LASUSTECH.
The union thanked the media, civil society organisations, traditional rulers, students and parents for their support during the negotiations. It also acknowledged the contributions of the Joint Action Front (JAF), Education Rights Concern (ERC) and Campaign for Democratic Workers Rights (CDWR) to its campaign for quality public tertiary education.
ASUU commended traditional rulers for their interventions and praised students and parents for their patience during the strike.
While directing members to return to the classrooms immediately, the union reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence and quality university education.
It, however, said negotiations with the Lagos State Government would continue until outstanding issues concerning members’ welfare packages were fully resolved.
