Remi Tinubu expands food outreach to vulnerable residents in Ondo

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday extended the Renewed Hope Initiative Food Outreach Scheme to Ondo State, with hundreds of vulnerable residents receiving food items to support efforts to address hunger and malnutrition.

Speaking at the distribution programme held at the International Culture and Event Centre in Akure, Tinubu, represented by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, said the initiative was designed to improve access to nutritious food for vulnerable households and promote healthy child development.

She said the Food Outreach Scheme forms part of the Renewed Hope Initiative’s commitment to supporting vulnerable Nigerians, noting that two states benefit from the programme every month through the support of development partners.

Tinubu explained that the initiative, launched in March 2024, is sustained by monthly donations from the Abdulsamad Rabiu Africa Initiative and another anonymous donor, adding that the food items distributed in Ondo were provided by the Abdulsamad Rabiu Africa Initiative.

She also commended Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa and his wife, Mrs Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, for supporting the implementation of the programme in the state.

Meanwhile, Aiyedatiwa described the outreach as a reflection of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to poverty reduction and social welfare, saying the intervention represented not only the distribution of food but also compassion for vulnerable citizens.

He said food security remains essential to human dignity and social stability, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to policies that improve food availability and access while supporting women, children and other vulnerable groups through the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The governor’s wife, represented by the wife of the deputy governor, Mrs Abosede Adelami, described the exercise as a symbol of compassionate leadership, while the Managing Director of the Abdulsamad Rabiu Africa Initiative, Dr Ubon Udoh, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting interventions that strengthen communities through investments in health, education and social development.
