Ruth Usoro wins commonwealth Long Jump silver for Nigeria

Nigeria’s campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games received another boost as Ruth Usoro won silver in the women’s long jump in Glasgow.
Usoro jumped 6.87m to finish behind England’s Jazmin Sawyers (6.93m), while Australia’s Brooke Buschkuehl took bronze with 6.80m.
The Akwa Ibom-born athlete, a former Texas Tech standout, is a multiple NCAA champion in both the long jump and triple jump and has represented Nigeria at the World Championships, African Championships, Commonwealth Games and Olympics.
Her podium finish adds to Nigeria’s strong showing in Glasgow, with the team now on 23 medals,10 gold, eight silver and five bronze.
