Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, on Thursday booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco after defeating Mexico 2-1 in their Round of 16 encounter.

Goals from Umejiaku and Dunstan in the 40th and 71st minutes, respectively, secured the victory for Nigeria, rendering Emily’s late strike for Mexico inconsequential.

The win keeps the Flamingos’ title hopes alive as they continue their quest for glory at the tournament.

Nigeria will face Venezuela in the quarter-finals on November 1 after the South American side defeated Germany 1-0 to advance to the last eight.

The Flamingos will now aim to maintain their winning momentum against Venezuela as they seek a place in the semi-finals and move closer to lifting the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup trophy.
