Bournemouth thrash Man Utd 3-0 to deepen Carrick’s crisis

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick came under increased pressure after his side suffered a disappointing 3-0 home defeat by Bournemouth, extending their winless run to eight games.

Bournemouth thoroughly deserved victory, exploiting United’s defensive frailties in an impressive display.

Pre-match attention focused on United captain Bruno Fernandes, dropped to the bench after criticising Carrick’s tactics following Wednesday’s 4-1 defeat by Como. Carrick called the decision a “football decision” and, despite United trailing 2-0 at half-time, did not introduce the midfielder, often the team’s talisman.

United struggled to create chances, while Bournemouth’s Evanilson and Rayan missed early opportunities. The visitors took the lead when Justin Kluivert’s superb free-kick found Rayan unmarked at the back post, where he volleyed past Senne Lammens.

Their advantage doubled two minutes before the break after Leny Yoro slipped, allowing Adrien Truffert to square for Marcus Tavernier to tap into an empty net. Boos greeted the half-time whistle, though some supporters encouraged the players as they left the pitch.

Bournemouth continued to threaten after the restart. The offside flag ruled out an early Evanilson goal, while Rayan fired at Lammens after Ayden Heaven’s mistakes created openings. He missed another chance after Lisandro Martinez stumbled and left him with a clear route to goal.

Bournemouth eventually added a third after more poor defending. Evanilson chased a long clearance, poked the ball past the advancing Lammens outside the area and curled it into the unguarded net.

The result completes a remarkable turnaround for Bournemouth, who won their first league match of the season only last weekend but have now won four consecutive games in all competitions.

The defeat leaves Manchester United 16th in the Premier League with seven points from eight matches, while Bournemouth rise to 13th.
