Ikeja Electric customers get N26.2m refunds after LASCOPA intervention

The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has facilitated credit adjustments and refunds totalling N26.24 million for Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) customers following its intervention in complaints received between January and September 2026.

The agency disclosed that it received 556 complaints against the electricity distribution company during the nine-month period, resolving 528 while 28 remain pending, representing a resolution rate of approximately 95 per cent.

LASCOPA’s General Manager and Chief Executive Officer, Afolabi Solebo, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to promoting fairness, accountability, transparency and improved service delivery in the electricity distribution sector.

The Head of LASCOPA’s Complaints and Mediation Department, Yusuf Musiliu, said the agency receives and analyses complaints through online and offline channels, while its stakeholders’ meetings provide a platform for Ikeja Electric officials and affected consumers to resolve disputes amicably.

Musiliu expressed satisfaction with the agreements reached through the engagements and urged aggrieved consumers to follow established procedures for seeking redress rather than resorting to self-help.

He advised consumers to submit supporting documents, including electricity bills, payment receipts and other relevant evidence, when filing complaints to facilitate investigations and timely resolution.

He added that LASCOPA’s stakeholders’ meeting with Ikeja Electric holds on the last Thursday of every month, urging consumers to promptly report billing disputes, estimated billing, overbilling, electricity supply challenges and other unfair practices.

The agency reiterated its commitment to protecting consumers under the Lagos State Consumer Protection Law 2025, as amended, and advised residents to seek assistance through its toll-free helpline, 080 0005 2726, available on weekdays, or via email at [email protected].
